On April 11, 2009, Susan Boyle stepped on the stage of the show ‘British Got Talent’ Due to how unattractive looking she was the crowd, and judges didn’t conceal their unbelief in her ability to sing or perform.
They literally laughed at her. She was fat, unattractive, and ordinarily looking 47 years old. Here’s a short clip of the video:
But when she opened her mouth to sing, BOOM!!!!!! her majestic singing talent laughed at their disbelief of her haters, and today she is a success.
why do humans transfer the way a person or thing looks to its ability to perform? In behavioral economics, this is called the HALO EFFECT
It means that the impression we have of a person or thing is transferred into other unrelated issues in their lives. or put differently our impression of a person or product determine or affects how we feel about them and what they can get from us.
When employers of labor see a good-looking candidate that is beautiful or handsome we automatically believe that they can do the job.
In research, some people were given two essays, with the authors of the essays adorning the pages of the paper. The authors that were beautiful were rated higher, while the not-so-good-looking author was rated lower.
Guys, people will judge you based on your looks and packaging, so spend time on making yourself look attractive if you want to succeed in this competitive world
SEQUENCING
Professors or lecturers have observed that if they are marking essays of their students if the first set of essays they marked were strong, they’ll automatically mark the subsequent essays that were ordinarily not strong as good.
Daniel Kahneman (Author: THINKING FAST AND THINKING SLOW) faced this same dilemma when he was a young professor. “I eventually noticed that my evaluations of the essays in each booklet were strikingly homogeneous. I began to suspect that my grading exhibited a halo effect and that the first question I scored had a disproportionate effect on the overall grade.”
This means that sequencing matters, what they see first will determine the kind of impression they’ll have about you.
Hmmm I hope this helped
