Humans are conditionable beings. Russian Psychologist Ivan Pavlov once did a popular experiment where each time he presents food to a dog, the dog will salivate and he’ll ring a bell. He will present food, the dog will salivate and he’ll ring a bell he did this ‘several’ times.
He carried out the process of: Food + Salivate + Bell repeatedly. Then he switched things up by just ringing the bell and guess what! the dog still salivated because the bell had ‘conditioned’ the dog to associate the sound of the bell to food availability. If everytime you make love to your spouse you play a certain song, guess what everytime you hear that song on the street, work, etc it will trigger the desire for sex in you because the song has CONDITIONED YOU.
This process is called CONDITIONING, which means the process of training or accustoming a person to behave in a certain way.
Do you realize that a lot of your behavior is as a result of your conditioning and not the situation? For example if in the past every time you try to make sales you get rejected if that happens repeatedly you’ll start associating the word ‘sales’ with rejection and not prosperity.
You went on several dates repeatedly they didn’t work and now you’ve been conditioned to believe that there are no men or women worthy of your love.
Now you may not verbally accept that you have been conditioned, but your behavior is telling the world a different story. This is because the most reliable source of information or data about you is how you’re behaving and not what you’re saying
A lot of your behavior is unconscious because you’re responding to a conditioning installed by your parents, school, friends, etc
HOW TO DECONDITION YOURSELF FROM NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE
Awareness: The first step to change is awareness, you cannot change anything you’re not aware of, for you cannot read the label if you’re still in the bottle. So when people point an uncomfortable fact about your character to you that’s an awareness moment there lean into the pain and discomfort its showing you what to change
Question your life: The right questions shake the foundations of your previously held assumptions. Like “ Why do you only make XYZ amount of money a year” “What can i do to make more sales” Questions shines light on what needs tochange in your life
Association: Associate with people who have a higher consciousness than you, people whose normal lives is your dream life.
Leave Your Comfort Zone: If you’re comfortable with only make 3 sales calls a day change to make 10 a day, if you’re comfortable making N2,000,000 a year strectch yourself to make N2,100,000 thats how you come out of your comfort zone and uncondition yourself. Give yourself a reward after every success. For is a great cup of coffee or i’ll buy me a gift
Association: Associate what you’re enjoying with the work you did in the past. Yesterday i was in a local market in England and i was drinking coffee i so enjoyed the experience that i said wow ‘Thank you Jesus Christ Hard work pays’ I am conditioning myself to believe that if i put in the work my results will pay for my lifestyle
