The Art of Effective Writing: Elevate Your Online Selling Game
You post updates on social media, send WhatsApp messages, and write. Writing is a powerful tool to amplify and communicate your opinions, products, and ideas. Those who can scale their ideas through writing have the ability to influence the world or their environment. According to Jordan Peterson, being able to write and speak well makes you dangerous—to poverty, lack of sales, and success.
Writing online offers several benefits for your career and business:
1. Serendipity: Writing online expands the realm of luck in your life. When you share your ideas on the internet, they can spread in unexpected directions, leading to opportunities, privileges, and success. Writing online carries the potential for virality.
2. Positioning: Writing online establishes you as an expert in your field.
3. Passive Income: Writing online allows you to earn money continuously from content you created in the past. You can write once and earn forever. For example, I still make money from books I wrote years ago on Amazon.
As an author of 7 books and over 170 articles in THE FOH LETTERS, as well as three articles on FORBES.COM, here are my top 8 tips to improve your writing:
1. Environment: Your environment significantly impacts your performance. Create a dedicated space in your home or office for writing. This space conditions your mind to enter writing mode whenever you're there. Speaking of environment, Winston Churchill grow up partially in his family castle called Blenheim Castle the magnificence of the castle made him have big ambitions. He once said “ We shape our buildings and then our buildings shape us” Truly your environment affect you. Does your current environment inspire you to write?
2. Strange Conversations: Engage in conversations with people from different fields. This cross-pollination of ideas enriches your understanding of the world, providing new concepts to incorporate into your writing.
3. Read, Read, Read: The quality of your input reflects in the craftsmanship of your output. Consume great books, articles, Twitter threads, and blog posts to expand your vocabulary, reinforce existing beliefs, and expose yourself to new ideas and tools that fuel your writing. If you don’t have the time to read books why not join my sales increase whatsapp group where we review a book each month. 4. Listen to Podcasts: Podcasts offer a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Listening to podcasts can provide you with an unfair advantage. Start by checking out my podcast, THE PAUL FOH PODCAST.
5. Edit, Edit, Edit: The best articles often undergo multiple rounds of editing. After writing the first draft, leave it for a few hours or even a day. When you return to it with fresh eyes, you'll be able to improve it significantly. Remember, "You cannot step into the same river twice."
6. Read It Out Loud: Reading your writing aloud helps you assess the tone, pace, and interpretation of your work.
7. Take Notes: A good writer is skilled at assembling ideas. Take notes while reading or listening to podcasts. Use a digital note-taking tool like Notion to capture and organize your ideas. Whenever you come across an idea in a book, podcast, or video, write it down in your journal. Your brain receives ideas, while your journal captures them.
8. Write Frequently: To become a skilled writer, practice writing frequently. Improvement comes from doing, not just knowing. When you share your writing, you'll receive feedback—both positive and negative. Embrace it all as an opportunity for constant growth and improvement.
