You set a goal to achieve an objective to buy a house, car, travel, etc. Have you noticed that when you eventually achieve the goal, you’re usually not as excited as we were when you were CHASING THE GOAL?
When you’re chasing a goal or have achieved a goal, your brain releases a neurotransmitter called dopamine, the job of dopamine is: to release pleasure in your body when you exercise or have sex and it sustains your drive and motivation towards the achievement of something.
Stanford Scientist and researcher Robert Sapolsky observed that a lot more DOPAMINE is released when you’re CHASING a goal, than when you have attained the goal. Hmmmmmm He proved it with Monkeys
THE MONKEY EXPERIMENT
He spoke about a Monkey in an experiment, this Monkey was kept in a room with light (Which is the signal or trigger) each time the light comes on the Monkey presses a lever (Which is the work or task), and boom! it gets food (which is the reward)
Now, here’s the interesting thing they discovered, DOPAMINE is not released when the Monkeys get their food or reward, rather dopamine was released in the brains of the Monkeys in ANTICIPATION of the reward! Wow The graph below indicates that
Maybe that’s why when some men finally have sex with the young woman they’re chasing the drive to keep the relationship going disappears because the dopamine in their mental tank is empty.
THE POWER OF UNCERTAINTY
The researchers then introduced uncertainty into the equation, so instead of the monkeys getting a reward or food 100% of the time when they touch the lever or do the work, they get the reward only 50% of the time, and that SPIKED the release of dopamine. Because they don’t know when the next meal will come.
This is why gambling is so addictive, the Gambler is uncertain of the outcome, and still, they put all their savings into it.

APPLICATION
When you set a personal goal, tell yourself that if you achieve the goal you will buy yourself a gift that will spike your motivation to achieve
When you want to launch a new product or service trigger the anticipation of reward in your clients by telling them what they will get when you launch or using things like ‘waiting list’ these triggers make people look forward to buying your stuff.
Increase the dopamine level prior to clients getting your product, increase their drive and purchase to get it
