50 Lessons in 50 Years

As I turn 50 tomorrow, I sat down to reflect on the life lessons that have shaped me. Some came through wisdom. Some came through pain. All came with purpose.

Here they are — 50 lessons that have helped me live, love, and lead with meaning.

1. Immerse yourself in the process, detach yourself from the outcome.
2. Your thoughts create your reality.
3. Your words shape your world.
4. Reading will do more for you than not reading.
5. Love your wife.
6. Love your children.
7. Take care of your physical health.
8. Ask for what you want.
9. Expose yourself to inspiring environments.
10. Learn how to sell yourself.
11. Dress well — it opens doors.
12. Have a strong bias for action.
13. Big results start with very small actions.
14. Fear is normal — that’s why God said, “Fear not.”
15. Men, don’t deny your sexual urges in marriage — channel them.
16. Take full responsibility for your home — everything is your fault.
17. Never disrupt anything that is compounding unnecessarily.
18. As you walk on your path, more of the path will reveal itself.
19. Surround yourself with beautiful things — your soul will follow.
20. Skills have utility and economic power.
21. Read the Bible.
22. Write down your goals.
23. Ask yourself, “What will destroy my business, marriage, health?” — then do the opposite.
24. Give money to people — the universe never owes.
25. Nurture, nourish, and value your relationship with your spouse.
26. Love your parents.
27. Travel the world.
28. Read like your life depends on it.
29. Permit no bad habits.
30. Men, you’re not designed for two women — it will ruin you.
31. Take a simple idea and take it seriously.
32. Out of abundance, we took abundance, and still abundance remained.
33. Anything you want is possible — if you upskill yourself to earn it.
34. Do what you want others to do to you — and do it first.
35. Sharpen your skills — they will take you before kings.
36. Closed mouths don’t get fed.
37. Take lots of two-door decisions. If it doesn’t work, walk back through. Start a business. Relocate. Move. Try. Test. Return.
38. Master a high-income-generating skill — it will open doors that passion alone cannot.
39. Build real friendships — relationships are the true currency of life.
40. Understand compound interest and compounding — both financially and in habits.
41. Attend a church and make yourself accountable — spiritual structure sustains long-term success.
42. Out-read, outwork, outsell, and outhustle them — excellence compounds when you do the hard things consistently.
43. Understand the times — like the sons of Issachar — so you know what to do.
44. Study AI, distribution, sales, marketing, and commercial storytelling.
45. Set goals that make you punch above your weight.
46. Study your family patterns — and reverse the negative ones so your offspring don’t suffer.
47. Think about your mortality — ask what you want said at your funeral, and live like that now.
48. Be grateful for everything.
49. Without the help of God, you are nothing.
50. God is faithful. Build your life on Him.
