HOW TO TAKE DIGITAL NOTES FROM: BOOKS YOU READ, VIDEOS YOU WATCH, AND PODCAST YOU LISTEN TO
I read 20 books, listened to 50 podcasts, watched tons of videos yet i can recall over 40% of the information....... here's how
You are a knowledge worker. The term ‘Knowledge worker’ was first coined in 1959 by the late management guru Peter Drucker in his book, ‘The Landmarks Of Tomorrow’
He essentially defined a knowledge worker as a person who earns his or her living by applying the knowledge they got formally (university) or informally (reading, courses, etc) to develop products and services. The knowledge worker which is you and me is the most important asset of the 21st-century work and business world.
Knowledge workers are paid for the knowledge they bring as value to the workplace and not for their manual labor.
GETTING KNOWLEDGE
For you to excel in this world of knowledge worker you must know how to acquire the relevant information and knowledge that can make you excel, prosper and earn in the marketplace. Like the sages say, “To earn more you must learn more”
Acquire knowledge that solves the problems of a starving market, sell that knowledge and you’ll never be broke another day of your life
FORMS OF KNOWLEDGE
Books
Podcast
Newsletters
Videos
Past experiences
TAKING DIGITAL NOTES
If knowledge is a wealth currency, then storing it for easy recall and usage is a premium skill.
I take notes on all the books (I read 20 books in 2021), podcasts (I listened to 50 podcasts in 2021), videos, and newsletters I consume on a daily basis. Here’s how
I use Apple note (If you have an iPhone it’s in your phone and if you use an Android phone use the notes app on your phone) I simultaneously use NOTION it’s a note-taking app. You can download it on your phone it is free.
I create a folder in the notes app for all the things I care about: passwords, books, podcasts, videos, trips I want to take, etc. Hmmm, do you know that you can also lock each note you take on the iPhone with a password!
When I consume any form of knowledge and I encounter a quote, Phrase, or lesson that I want to save I simply highlight it, copy, and paste it on the designated folder in my notes app. See the picture below….
This is a screenshot from my podcast folder in my Apple notes. I listen to podcasts in an app called CASTRO it’s a fantastic app. With Castro, you can save a 2 minutes section of a 1-hour podcast that you like, export it to your notes app and save it for later reference.
This is the reason why I do not ever, ever lack content to write. You should never scratch your head to recall a quote because your head is to receive information while your notes are to store the information and recall it to produce value and wealth.
BENEFITS OF TAKING DIGITAL NOTES
RECALL: If your boss asks you to make a presentation, you don’t need to scratch your head, just assemble the knowledge that you have stored and you’ll have the raw material to smash your presentation
CONTENT CREATION: Notes make it easy to create content consistently
