Here's what a Doctor told me that scared me
Monday morning, I sat quietly in my studio downstairs. My sons were off to school, and my wife had gone to work. It's cold, but I am grateful that I have a place to work and create.
I hope this letter meets you in good spirits.
Here are the things life taught me this week:
What you don’t measure, you don’t manage or improve
Yesterday, I spoke at a conference in central London. The speaker before me, a medical doctor, told everyone to measure their weight and do a BMI assessment. When I did it, I discovered I was overweight!
I felt fear and shame.
Immediately, I ordered a weighing scale from Amazon, cut down on some food, and when I checked my weight this morning, I was down to 78kg from 81kg. Gradual progress!
You probably avoid checking your weight, bank account, or sales because you fear what you might see. But denial doesn’t bring change. Buy a weighing scale, monitor your blood pressure—prevent sickness and disease.
You have to confront the areas of your life you need to measure.
Yesterday, my sons, wife, and I did a fun exercise: we asked each other what we liked about one another and what we needed to improve on. That’s another form of measurement. My family told me I need to improve on helping with the cleaning around the house.
