3 Ways To Make Good Decisions
Your life is a walking, talking, and breathing billboard of your past decisions and choices. You are currently living as a consequence of a previous decision-good or bad. The good thing about us humans is that we have the power to change our situations by making different decisions.
“IT IS IN THE MOMENTS OF DECISION THAT YOUR DESTINY IS SHAPED” Tony Robbins
What is a decision? ‘ A choice you make about something after thinking about it.’
Your choices are a reflection of what’s important to you at that moment. If you choose to drink soft drinks all day instead of water you’re saying that bad teeth and bad health is more important to you than a fit body.
When you make a decision, you must accept and live with the consequences of that decision.
So how do we make better decisions? Here are 3 frameworks that may help you
SECOND LEVEL CONSEQUENCE
Asymmetry: The lack of equality between two parts
Positive Asymmetry: This is a decision-making process whereby the DOWNSIDE of a decision, action or choice is LIMITED but the UPSIDE is UNLIMITED. For example, the downside of a decision to make 10 sales calls is limited in the sense of the stress to pick up your phone and make a sales call that may not even end up in a sale however, the UNLIMITEDNESS of the upside is that you may close a sale and from the money from that sale you may buy a house and from that house you will start earning rental income.
Negative Asymmetry: This is a decision-making process whereby the UPSIDE of a decision, action, or choice is LIMITED but the downside is UNLIMITED. For example, texting or posting on social media while driving the upside of that action is a limited endorphin rush of posting or responding to a text, but the downside is that you may kill another human being while driving and that may end you in jail. Another example could be cheating on your spouse. The upside is a few minutes of sexual pleasure but the downside is you may lose your marriage, children, and dignity.
Second Level Consequences: This is a decision-making process which means that each decision you make has a consequence and that consequence will create another consequence. If you decide not to take care of your health today that will come with some consequence like lack of energy or fat, the second level of that consequence could be you losing a relationship because you’re not looking attractive
